Unlike most of my other prints, these three were made using the traditional Japanese method, mokuhanga. This technique uses water based inks, applied to the block with paste and a brush, instead of the oil based inks I normally use, applied with a rubber roller. This results in more delicate, watercolour-like washes of colours. The moisture of both paper and ink must be carefully controlled and consistent results are more difficult to achieve.
